INDUSTRY DEFINED PROBLEMS - Challenges Straight From the Industry

An event to marry your academic brilliance to real life Industrial problem; a platform to put your imagination at work; a challenge to innovate and find solutions. Forming a link between academia and industry, this event touches almost every aspect of engineering study- from depth of scientific thought to feasibility of your solution. The problem statement would be modelled on a current industry trend and the participants are expected to provide comprehensive executable solutions.

Literati is proud to present Industry Defined Problems in association with United Nations Information Center. We'd like to extend our heartiest thanks to them for posing us with challenges that require to be contemplated upon by the top brains of the country. We hope we'd be able to come up with solutions to these problems which'd benefit not only India, but humanity as a whole.

Those who are not selected please don’t get disappointed. The constraints in the number of entries allowed us to select only these papers.
1. This event comprises of two stages.
2. Maximum of four members allowed per team.
3. Participants have to come up with a solution to at least one of the problem statements to qualify as a valid entry.
4. A detailed abstract on the design with drawings, schematics, wherever applicable, should be mailed, latest by Saturday, 11th April, 2009(for NITK students) & latest by Monday, 13th April, 2009 (for outside participants), to literati09.nitk@gmail.com, with the SUBJECT as “IDP”.
5. Your abstract should also include a list of references (including sources of statistical data that you may have used).
6. Please make sure that along with the abstract, names and contact details of all the team members are also included.
7. Though prototyping isn't mandatory for any of the problems, it is recommended that you may do so, as prototypes are the best way to prove your concept really works.
8. The short-listed teams will be intimated soon thereafter and will have to present their solution to a distinguished panel of judges during Literati ‘09.
9. A cost analysis and an assessment of the design's effectiveness may be expected. You should be able to convince the judges that design's usefulness can outweigh the cost.
